What wedding car should I hire?
So you've booked the venue, you've picked the dress, but how are you travelling to the biggest day of your life? Do you want to hire a wedding car?
There are literally hundreds of options when it comes to wedding car hire. Here are some questions you might need to ask yourself before making a final decision.
How many passengers will be travelling in the wedding car?
Traditionally, back in the day, the wedding car transported just the bride and her dad. These days, anything goes! Some brides take their tribe of bridesmaids along for the journey - this can be great fun, especially if the wedding car has a bluetooth enabled stereo like ours. Hook your phone or ipod up and crank out your fave tunes to sing along to and help banish those last minute nerves. This goes for groomsmen too. Some car companies will do you a special deal for multiple journeys, so why not treat the groom and groomsmen to a fun memorable trip too.
Is your wedding reception quite a distance from the church or registry office? In this case, are you going to provide transport for all your guests? You could go for a minibus, vintage coach, or our fave - a red double decker bus!
How big is your wedding dress?
Don't forget to consider the size of your dress. If you've opted for something small and fairly fitted then you won't be restricted. but if your choice is something larger, princess-like, puffed out with a hoop, then chances are you may not be able to fit in every type of car. We love Minis, Fiat 500s and Beetles, but they just aren't practical for a huge dress! If you're really not sure, ask to view your potential wedding cars before making a final decision.
What style/vibe is your wedding?
As we've already mentioned, these days anything goes with weddings, there are no strict rules. However you might want to take inspiration from the style of your dress or decor and match your wedding car to it. For example, if your dress and decor are very vintage and traditional you could go for a Rolls Royce or Bentley.
More of a 60s/70s theme? Mk 2 Jaguars are lovely, Minis, Beetles and VW Camper Vans.
City Wedding - Red Bus and a classic black or white taxi.
Grand country house - why not go all out with a horse and cart!
Quirky - Fiat 500, Tuk Tuk or our absolute fave - Del Boys Van! I think if I ever got married, despite personally owning VW wedding cars, I would want a big red vintage bus (party on wheels!!) and Del Boys Van. How much fun would that be!?
Will the car be decorated?
Some companies will just decorate with the classic white wedding car ribbon, but it's worth asking about options. Here at the White Van Wedding Co. we love going all out with decoration and offer many different colour combinations. Coordinate with your bridesmaids or your number one football team, the choice is yours.
Will your wedding car stay around for photos after the ceremony?
This is also worth checking, as some will zoom off straight after drop off. Different companies vary - some take on multiple weddings per day so don't have much time to spare.
At The White Van Wedding Co. we only take on one wedding per day and fully encourage you to make the most of all your photo opportunities. You can get some truly beautiful photos with cars if you have an imaginative photographer, and you'll treasure them for years to come.
Check out reviews!
We are lucky these days with the invention of the internet, every bit of information is at our fingertips - remember having to trawl the phone book and traipse to libraries?! (oooh showing my age there! Be sure to take a look at previous reviews of your chosen company, whether on Google, Facebook or other specialist websites. Photos might look good, but the camera can sometimes lie, and testimonials will give you a better idea of what to expect.
